Why go organic - think beyond what you consume...

Why go organic - think beyond what you consume...

It comes up in conversation relatively often as to why we are committed to organic food. The obvious answers are all to do with preferring not to consume chemicals in our food, but there is a lot more to it than that...

Our spending of money is a kind of power. That is why advertising works. When we choose to spend money here and not there, we do end up creating an impact, rather like a domino effect.

So when we choose to buy organic food we are directing energy towards businesses who are making the effort to grow and process their products organically. When we buy the big brands - often owned by international mega-businesses who probably don't even pay taxes here - we are giving them our energy and our support. To whomever we give our hard-earned money, we are in effect saying 'YES, I choose you!'.

It also goes towards the world we are all hoping to move towards... Are we choosing a world where small businesses and farmers are supported; where integrity is valued; where care for products and quality is a given? Or are we choosing a world where cheap is best; where accountability is deflected; and where the earth we live on, in and with is purely a resource to be exploited?

The fact is, that where you put your dollars IS where you put your support and your energy. Focussing on who gets your dollars is making a strong and powerful statement about the world you are choosing to create and live in.

.... and that is why choosing organic is about a lot more than what you are putting into your own body in your food (although that is important too!)
