There is much in the news - whether mainstream or not - these days about the increase in costs of living. We have seen ourselves the prices of nuts, other ingredients, packaging and freight has skyrocketed in the last 12 months or so. The cost of our raw organic Brazil nuts has increased by 72% in 17 months, while cacao powder has gone up 93%. And that is not even considering the 100% increase in rent we were recently given!
How is this possible??? I know there are explanations to do with failed harvests, market trends and so on. I find it strange however, that markets as geographically diverse as Brazils from Bolivia, coconut from Sri Lanka and packaging from Korea are all apparently mysteriously affected by the same price hiking factors. And that does not of course explain how our rent for the same premises can increase by 100% from one year to the next. I do not have an answer to these questions, but they are good to ponder...
In the meantime, you may see price jumps on our products moving forward. These will be 100% a reflection of price jumps in our costs. It seems that we are in 'interesting' times and most of us are feeling squeezed, stretched and challenged.
