It has been a challenging few months in our nutty world with shortages, surprises and more than a few dramas.
We went through the Bolivian civil crisis which triggered a months long Brazil nuts crisis for us.
All Australian nuts had a disastrous harvest this year due to unseasonal rains at inopportune times. This impacted our macadamia, almond, pecan and sunflower seed availability.
Obviously our missing stock is a minor inconvenience compared to the stress, distress and trauma of how these event impacted those directly involved. It always serves to keep these things in perspective!
Behind the scenes, we've scrambled and searched high and low (and far and wide), doing everything possible to keep products out of stock for as little time as possible. We even said 'no' to a couple of possibilities because it would have meant accepting nuts of a lower quality than we were prepared to accept (although still certified organic of course).
And now... we are out of the woods. We've turned the corner. We've entered calmer waters. Pick any suitable metaphor you choose.
Yesterday we received one of the pallets of Brazil nuts that finally got here from Bolivia. We have been assured macadamia supply - Australian ones, even! - until the next harvest. We had a supply of Australian almonds fortuitously drop into our laps. Pecans are now also safe until next year. And we sourced European sunflower seeds.
So yes, it feels like some celebration is called for! It has been a trying few months, and we made it through. Here's to some plain sailing ahead! And thank you - truly - for staying the distance with us and coming out the other side!
