The chances are fairly high that if you are reading this blog, you are interested in eating healthy organic food and making conscious lifestyle choices.
But... there is a lot of scope as to how we live these choices. Do we insist on following our understanding of healthy food to the extent where it becomes a source of pressure? Or are we relaxed, allowing life to throw curve balls and prepared to go out of the 'healthy food' comfort zone when life takes us there?
I have certainly done my share of the former, stressing about food especially for my son when he was little. Our food choices can easily become something else to beat ourselves up with, a source of pressure that we apply to ourselves. Pressure becomes stress, and before you know it, the intention to be healthy is actually having a negative impact on your health! Not to mention impacting relationships and limiting opportunities.
Chronic stress and the elevated cortisol levels it induces can lead to, among other things, a suppressed immune system, heart disease, high blood pressure, depression and digestive issues. So there you have the intention to be healthy actually ending up compromising our health!
So by all means, have a focus and intent on eating healthy (whatever that means for you) and making conscious lifestyle choices. And also, allow life to throw you the unexpected (because guaranteed it will) and roll with where it takes you. The chances are, that unless you have a medical condition that you need to take into account, like Crohn's disease or anaphylaxis, your healthy body that you nurture and feed beautifully most of the time can handle the less than ideal now and again.
