POWERFUL NUTRIENTS IN SMALL SEEDS

POWERFUL NUTRIENTS IN SMALL SEEDS

Both Hemp and Sesame pack a phenomenal amount of punch for their size in terms of what they give us nutritionally.

Hemp Seeds

Even though Hemp seeds are a complete protein, containing all 9 of the essential amino acids, their real superpower is in their fat content. Hemp seeds contain around 80% polyunsaturated fat, with a beautiful balance (3:1) of omega-6 and omega-3. It also contains generous amounts of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) which is a fairly rare and anti-inflammatory omega-6.

Hemps seeds are also rich in anti-oxidants and compounds that help regulate cholesterol - Vitamin E, Gamma-tocopherol and some phytosterols.

Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds are often overlooked, somewhat taken for granted in the seeds-in-the-pantry section. They actually deserve way more than that.

Sesame seeds contain Sesame lignans, which are very rare in our diet and super concentrated in sesame seeds. They are powerful anti-oxidants, supporting the body's own antioxidant system rather than just neutralising free radicals. They are also helpful in cholesterol management, reducing inflammatory markers, arthritis pain and fat metabolism. That's quite a list (and its the short version!).

As well as the lignans, sesame seeds are also rich in minerals, have a great fat profile (~46% oleic acid and ~37% linoleic acid). They are reasonably high in protein, and the amino acids they are rich in are unusual ones (methionine and cysteine), which is why they pair well with legumes and other plant proteins.

So all in all, you have here two tiny little bundles of nutritional muscle. And when they are certified organic and activated, you get the absolute most out of them that is possible!
